first week efforts

Thursday. I haven't managed to get onto a day-cycle, waking up late. After my first attempt to approach companies, I realised the task before me. The most realistic bod to push is Michel, since I got all his info, but sadly I have found that his company, Absolut, is based in Sweden and the parent company in France.

I came to London with a lot of energy, with not quite enough done on the presentation and assuming that finding where the companies were would be relatively simple. I have found this to be exhausting. I am using my 5-year old laptop and it takes half a minute to do anything between keypresses and so I have had to rely on using Sofia's or Tav's machines. Couple that with my great ineptitude trying to find things, and you have a real energy sink. I also tried to resist engaging the guys, since they are in such a spin, and I have found myself and my mind used up in conversation that is far from effective, realistic, useful. It appears that we are talking about something we are going to do, but nothing actually happens. They are not to blame, I am. I have engaged them, and a similar thing has happened as January. Nothing actually happens.

So... I have one more week. Mamading has made some pleasant noises in my direction. I think I might be able to pull together the info on him, and find out where I am meant to go, and then hit companies next week. That is the plan. Also want to do something with Sofia, and perhaps a social bod through Servane. And would be nice to get Hexayurt too. Although my energies are a little twisted, and the learning has been limited wrt engaging the real world and mostly warped into the funny hole that is Arrington Court, there is still hope!

I knew the chances were small, and that was in relation to engaging companies, I find that the troubles seem to spring up closer to home. Locals are so fixed on what they do, they seem to be oblivious to opportunity. This is deadly to me, and I certainly need to realise that in order to get anything done, just do it. Engaging people, means energy is used up, attention is dispersed, and movement does not occur. I came to london ruthless and carefree in order to be able to penetrate the monster, the machine. In this first week, I have failed, and it is only thursday.

I could get away with the teaching experience because all the logistics were sorted out for me. Somehow things worked out so that I ended up with 30 kids in a room where the magic could commence. Never had to search and find them. This is the problem I face, and unless people help me with my blind spot, looks like magic isn't going to happen.

One more week to go. Let's see what else we can learn.

and if it does materialise it will only prove that it was a collective effort

making a move

In order for me to make a move, I need to know:

• where I am going, and who I am seeing
• who I am going to present for macropatronage
• support material, and/or in person social artist
• expectations for the year
  

Out of the six people I sent off invitations to, four checked it and two didn't. Out of those I requested information, I only received from one. I have recently seen two of the others in person in order to impress upon them the potential significance of pursuing this idea with minimal effort on their part. Although both responded positively in person, they have not supplied me with details.

Based on this rather poor response, I should probably just drop this and wait for a time where the conditions ameliorate, or read about how some other bod has managed to manifest sufficient trust with their network of interesting bods. However, I was speaking to Rick Ulfick from We, The World, and it just so happens he needs something in the order of $75 to $100 thousand, and I realised I was talking to a social artist. This has made me rethink the selection I had in mind.

I want to make a move on this in March, when I return to London. I will have a list of people, some links and information to things on the net, kind of like a portfolio, and the companies they recommend I should approach on their behalf.

Michel Bauwens, because of his efforts. He is below the radar a little, and his writing a book would help, and getting into a higher talk-circuit. I need to confirm the info, the companies (two please), and how realistic it would be for him to appear if we got far enough in a conversation with a company.

I have just spoke to Rick Ulfick but think he is ideal and we have arranged for a second conversation later tonight.

I would like to recommend Iain, but I have no info, however positive he might be in person. And I believe Phamie is well enough established too.

These three are social artists and have experience and are well placed in terms of evidence to support what they do. I am not entirely sure what they hope to achieve this year if suitably funded, and again this would be useful to have some inkling.

The next band of people are impressive and are ripe with potential this year, and so I would recommend them. Tav, Sofia, Dougald, Vinay. Some of you I know quite well, and others only briefly, but the fire that burns in you all means this year could be incredibly significant. If you are assisted in making this year successful not just in terms of your own projects, I believe the influence you may exert could be significant in globally strategic terms in years to come. It is not of course that you are unique in the world, since we all are, and indeed there are plenty of others who share the vitality you have as well as the will and ideas. But I have come to know you over the last few years, and since my circle of aquaintences is small, and I hope it remains that way, I offer my services to you.

The next group are young and have huge potential, and I am not sure how they would deal with £100,000. It is a big relationship, but I believe they are bright enough to use the money well, and perhaps seek advice from the others should they require it. I include Dan and Sonya.

I would like to include others, but their response has not been incredibly positive even in person or I haven't seen them for a while. I would include Matt, Zang, and even my brother Ricardo.

and the billions in terms of internet advertising...

i have started the process off by mentioning it to a few people
and now i am asking for them to compile a list of links
which provides some kind of virtual profile...

once i get this information
then i shall speak to each individual social artist one on one
in order to work out the best possible approach

i like the idea of the social artists coming together
and helping one another out
but everyone is busy
and i believe there needs to be some real action
in terms of actually getting hands on money
before anyone actually changes their behaviour...
